David Bowie on Spongebob Squarepants as a Blue Meanie

And now, David Bowie, on Spongebob Squarepants, as a Blue Meanie.

Bowie’s John Gielgud impression and his multicolored eyes are pretty great, but also check out the brilliant animation during Squidward’s “art” song:

It’s from the Atlantis Squarepantis TV movie, now available on DVD.

there’s always been something special about Spongebob Squarepants. i always remember the episode when they run away from home, and they’re camping on the ocean floor desert, and they’re roasting marshmallows at a fire, and Patrick says, “Say, if we’re underwater, how can we have a” and the fire disappears. i haven’t seen anything mainstream play with conventions like that since Wile E. Coyote walked off the cliff a few paces and was suspended in the air until the moment he looked down.

Header by me. Contains an interpolation of the final panel from All-Star Superman #1 by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. Speaking of which.
